BYD admits interest in Formula 1
Chinese automotive giant BYD has denied having immediate plans to enter Formula 1, though it acknowledged an interest in becoming a technology partner for the series in the future.
This response follows rumors linking the brand to the creation of a twelfth team in the championship. Post-2030 engine regulations will determine the Chinese brand's future path.
During the Goodwood Festival of Speed, BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li clarified the company's stance: "There is no project currently in the works. The dream is always there, but we don't have a concrete timeline."
Special advisor Alfredo Altavilla emphasized that BYD is not interested in mere promotional involvement, explaining that they would only consider F1 if the brand's technology could serve the sport's objectives. "If we find a way to become a technology partner for Formula 1, we might be interested," Altavilla concluded, noting that the decision depends on how future engine regulations for the post-2030 era evolve.
