Thomas was thrown to the ground when he collided with the River Cats mascot, who was dressed as Santa Claus in July.
Los Angeles Dodgers baseball player Alek Thomas was involved in a bizarre accident with a mascot while in the minor leagues last weekend.
Thomas, who currently plays for Los Angeles' Triple-A affiliate Oklahoma City, ran out of the visitors' dugout Saturday before a game against the Sacramento River Cats.
Upon leaving, Sacramento's mascot, "Dinger," was speeding down on a scooter and collided with the MLB veteran.
Both the player and the mascot fell.
Fortunately, Thomas was fine after the accident and had no hits in four attempts in Saturday's game.
He did not play on Sunday, but in the following days, images of the embarrassing moment emerged on social media.
More than two million people watched the video on X in less than 12 hours, and many fans couldn't believe what they were seeing.
"To be completely fair, it's 100% Alek's fault," one person wrote about the accident.
“I spent five seasons in the big leagues only to end up as a roadkill mascot,” joked another.
“He lost all the aura he had left,” said a third.
"Buddy has no idea what's going on around him," said a fourth interviewee about Thomas.
Since making his major league debut in 2022, Thomas hasn't evolved as much as expected.
He appeared on top 100 lists when he was in the minor leagues, but after playing in 28 regular-season games for Arizona this year, he has yet to debut for the Dodgers. Instead, Thomas played 36 times for the Triple-A affiliate, the Comets.
