Amar Dedić signs for Newcastle United

Born in Zell am See in the Austrian state of Salzburg on 18 August 2002, Dedić began his career with local club LUV Graz, before joining Sturm Graz's Academy at U11 level. After three years in the youth categories of
Die Schwoazn , Dedić joined Red Bull Salzburg at the age of 13. In the summer of 2019, he signed his first professional contract and helped Salzburg's U19 team reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League in the 2019/20 season, losing to eventual champions Real Madrid.

At just 16 years old, the right-back made his professional debut for Liefering, playing 50 matches in the Austrian second division, where the club secured two consecutive places in the top three.

His brilliant performances for satellite team RB Salzburg resulted in him signing a new four-year contract with Die Roten Bullen.

In the 2021/22 season, he gained valuable experience in the Austrian top flight whilst on loan at Wolfsberger AC, helping the club qualify for the Conference League after finishing fourth, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Austrian Cup.

Dedić made his UEFA Champions League debut for RB Salzburg under current Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle in September 2022, and won a title in his first season with the first team, winning the Austrian Bundesliga championship in 2022/23.

Dedić captained RB Salzburg in the 2023/24 season, wearing the captain's armband in 17 official matches, as well as leading the Austrian team in three of the six Champions League group stage games.

He was also efficient in front of goal, contributing five goals and five assists in all competitions, and in January 2023 he extended his contract until the summer of 2027.

In February 2025, the right-back joined Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille for the 2024/25 season, before Roberto De Zerbi's side secured second place in the French league.

Dedić made a permanent move to Benfica last summer, ending a ten-year spell at Salzburg. Despite finishing the championship undefeated, the Portuguese giant only managed third place, eight points behind champions FC Porto.
