Como coach Cesc Fàbregas has assured that his team's Champions League debut is "like any other game" as they prepare to face RB Leipzig on Thursday (10 September). Como have been one of Italian football's biggest success stories in recent years, with 39-year-old Fàbregas guiding them from Serie B to the Champions League in just over three seasons. The Italian team had never played in a European competition before qualifying for the continent's main club tournament, after finishing fourth in Serie A in the 2025-26 season. Ahead of the opening game against RB Leipzig on Thursday 10 September at the Sinigaglia Stadium, Fàbregas was as calm as ever. “First of all, I would like to send a message of support to our player Roberta Picchi. We are a family, so we send you a big hug and we are by your side", stated Fàbregas at the beginning of his press conference. Picchi is a member of the Como women's team and was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The club extended her contract for another year to support her during her recovery. “It's a game like any other, we have to try to win, as we do in every match. I understand the emotion of the city and the club, but we must also remember that it is just a football game. Leipzig is a great team and we should see this as an opportunity to continue growing. We want to be at the top, so we'll see what happens, but we have faith", he stressed.
