Ipswich Town signed Japanese striker Daizen Maeda from Celtic in a three-year deal.

Maeda, who was part of Japan's World Cup squad, becomes Ipswich's first Japanese player. The British press reported that the transfer value is around 11.7 million euros.

"I always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and I'm very happy to be able to fulfill that dream at this club. I really enjoyed all the conversations with the club and they made me feel very welcome", Maeda said in a statement.

"My goal will always be to fight as hard as I can, score goals and assist for my team – I will always run and give everything I have."

The 28-year-old scored five goals in 30 appearances for Japan.

Maeda scored 79 goals in 212 games for Celtic.

He joins Gary O'Neil's team ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season, becoming Ipswich's fifth signing this summer. Ipswich begin their campaign against Sunderland on August 22.

The forward made his debut in European football playing for Marítimo.
