The NBA's European expansion looks set to receive a £740m boost. According to The Athletic, American billionaire Nikesh Arora is in talks to buy a London-based NBA team. The report adds that Arora, who is the CEO of a cybersecurity company, has assembled a group of investors willing to offer the exorbitant amount and lead the NBA's European venture. The NBA's European expansion is expected to fully launch in the second half of 2027 and will begin with 16 teams, 12 of which will be licensed. What other groups are interested in acquiring an NBA franchise in Europe? Several big names have already expressed interest in owning an NBA franchise in Europe. According to several sources, Qatar Sports Investments, owner of Paris Saint-Germain, is expected to seek the acquisition of a team based in Paris. RedBird Capital, owner of Italian giant AC Milan, is considered the main candidate to acquire the Milanese club. If Arora's consortium is successful, this will be his second major investment in a London-based sports franchise. In 2025, the 58-year-old businessman led a group that acquired a 49% stake in London Spirit, a team competing in The Hundred tournament, in a deal costing approximately £145 million.
